Nurture. Inspire. Lead.
The International Peer Leadership Network (IPLN) is a forum for practising peer supporters and peer researchers from around the world who use their lived experience to lead positive change.
We’re a global online community creating a network of peers from a variety of sectors ranging from mental health and substance use, to physical health concerns and sexual exploitation.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for peer supporters and peer researchers to develop and practice their leadership skills and learn from one another.
There has been an increasing growth and expansion of peer roles globally. But opportunities for growth within the role have been limited and varied. With some countries forging ahead with opportunities for peers to become supervisors, managers and directors, others are still just learning. But, we believe that Peer Leadership is far more than this. We believe in the democratisation of leadership, that you can be a leader with or without the title. As such, we aim to further the ever-growing peer leadership movement.
Why join us?
Connect with an international community of fellow peer supporters, peer researchers and peer leaders.
Access guidance, resources, professional development and networking opportunities and support.
Learn the latest developments in peer support, peer research, how peer leadership is evolving internationally, how you can get involved and grow peer leadership in your own teams and communities.
It’s a place to share, exchange ideas, and develop your own peer leadership projects.
“I love our Peer Leadership meetings... Peer support in mental health is so different now. I’m surrounded by smart, successful, skilled people that won’t be held back by traditional barriers. I’m never more hopeful than after a meeting!”
How do I get involved?
The IPLN is split into two different components: an international community of practice which is open to any practising peer supporter or peer researcher across the globe, and a peer leadership incubator which is open to peer supporters, peer researchers and people working in paid or voluntary peer or lived experience roles worldwide through an annual application.
On the 4th Wednesday of the month, we host our community of practice meetings. This is a space for peer supporters and peer researchers from all disciplines, from across the globe to share, learn more about peer leadership, and connect with others through reflective learning to grow your peer leadership skills. “I leave each meeting a much stronger and happier lived experience leader, which definitely has an impact on my team and those using services.” - IPLN Member
Our peer leadership incubator meets monthly through a 9 month package of support to bring your own peer leadership project to life. You’ll receive guidance and support with its development, whether it's in the early stages of planning, or almost ready for implementation. We're here to support. Click on the button above to learn more or click here to see the ideas of previous cohorts.
“The relationships, learning, and sense of community that have been cultivated through this incubator feel far too valuable to leave behind.” - Incubator Participant, 2026
Applications for the 2026-27 cohort are currently open until 11 August, 2026
